This is for all
the weary souls
who fear less dear
and wash away
public display
in hearts they see
as dark, betrayed
sparks of lies
in wishy ways.
Who sit alone
and wait unknown;
no flowers, cards
affection shown.
No chocolate
kisses will they get.
No dinner out,
endearing pets
precluding sex,
or pats appreciative
of love. Who feel un-
worthy, all above.
From someone
who used to be
a weary soul;
love, me.

Laurie, have have been reading your poetry for years now. A weary soul is profoundly said. thank you
Thanks, Tracy. I’ll never forget that feeling.
Ah Laurie, only those who have been there know. We can change our own attitude about things we cannot change, but it’s a major step along the way to have acknowledgement from someone who knows that the soul-weariness is very real. This poem/letter drops love into that place beautifully.
the inside-out of love. i really like this, Laurie.
smiles…there are many that will be hurting today because they dont not see love in their lives….perhaps we have all been there at some point…and in that we understand and can come together….
oh i just love that you think of those that may have a hard time today with all the valentines (may i call it hysterie…?) around them…well done laurie…shows your heart as well
I truly think that this poem fits many people; and I like your heartfelt caring for those for whom Valentine’s Day is less than a special day.
Lovely piece….
Well…maye there is something to watch on television
It’s only a commercially driven ‘feast day’.
Nice poem, but not all who are alone wish to be found.
Lovely, days like Valentine are the hardest for those wanting,
WONDERFUL, Laurie.
Wonderful meter throughout. i do like the 4-syllable rhythm.
ah… just like you to remember everyone
“Sparks of lies in wishy ways” I love the way this reads. Nicely done.
Good on you, girl. Lest we forget the broken hearts, the damaged souls who cringe when Hallmark rings the sentiment belles; alone for the holidays, alone for V-Day, no calls, no texts, no emails, just searing silence and inner aching; thanks.
Lovely poem.
…weary they are i know love still clings inside…. fear’s just too big for love to be freed… smiles…
Yes, this was a sad day for those who have no valentine…You stated the pain so well.
I read it once, twice …and then again. Just to feel and hear the words come together beautifully, Laurie.
the end took and unexpected turn…
kooky kinesthetics
very true, Laurie, very true.
yes it is a hard day for some
I used to hate Valentine’s Day for all those reasons; now I just severely dislike it because it has become so tacky and tawdry, at least in my view.
Enjoyed the poem though
Fabulous message, great use of both aliteration and enjambment. Well wrought, Laurie.
I love the beat of where your reflections an conclusions are carried by the words. Great!
